On May 20, 2023, by Royal Command of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol, President of the Chulabhorn Research Institute (CRI), Mr. Chalermpol Thanchitt, Vice President for International Relations of the CRI, presided over the opening ceremony of the Project on Integrated Training for Knowledge Dissemination and Technology Transfer on the Management of Rabies to Communities, under HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s project on “Disease-free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies”.  The event was held at Classic Kameo Hotel, Nernpra Subdistrict, Mueang Rayong District, Rayong Province.

The activities of the Training Project comprised academic lectures and a workshop on using applications of the IT system to prevent rabies in schools and communities, fostering exchange of learning, and networking to expand future cooperation among agencies related to the prevention of rabies. Approximately 150 participants attended, including livestock officials, public health officials from local administrative organizations, health education teachers, village health volunteers, and community representatives.

Rayong Province is one of the key target areas for effectively implementing HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s project on “Disease-free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies”, under the collaboration across various sectors, including the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Faculty of Education, Kasetsart University, Provincial Public Health Office, Provincial Livestock Office, and other offices of local authorities. They collectively organize campaign activities aimed at encouraging local people engagement in the surveillance, prevention, and control of the spread of rabies, as well as in effective rabies management in communities. In Rayong Province, the total population of dogs and cats is currently recorded at 214,895, with 1,596 already sterilized. Training to promote networking and knowledge on rabies has been provided to 1,157 volunteers responsible for rabies vaccination of dogs and cats, covering 8 Districts in the Province.  The Rayong City Municipality animal shelter capable of accommodating as many as 300 dogs has also been provided. These activities signify significant progress in the implementation of HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s project on “Disease-free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies”, aiming to sustainably eradicate rabies from Thailand and accomplish Her Royal Highness’s intention.
