On Saturday, June 17, 2023, by Royal Command of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol, President of the Chulabhorn Research Institute (CRI), Mr. Chalit Manityakul, Vice President for International Relations of the CRI, presided over the opening ceremony of the Project on Integrated Training for Knowledge Dissemination and Technology Transfer on the Management of Rabies to Communities, under the strategy of the operation of HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s project on “Disease-free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies”. The event was held at Loft Mania Boutique Hotel, Tha Tapao Subdistrict, Mueang Chumphon District, Chumphon Province.
The activities of the Training Project consisted of academic lectures and a workshop on using applications to prevent rabies in schools and communities, with over 160 participants attended, including livestock officials, public health officials from local administrative organizations, health education teachers, village health volunteers, and community representatives.
Chumphon Province is selected as a target area for HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s project on “Disease-free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies”. Dogs and cats population in Chumphon Province is currently recorded at 160,662, with 1,335 already sterilized. Training to enhance and develop the potential of rabies prevention has been provided to 194 livestock volunteers. In the budget year 2023, the Provincial Office implemented a project to build rabies-free zones in Sawi District, covering 11 Subdistricts. Among these,
6 Subdistricts have been evaluated and certified as rabies-free zones. The activities have been held through the cooperation among all relevant sectors to raise awareness of the effective management of dog issues in communities and the sustainable methods of preventing the spread of rabies.
