On April 22, 2023 at 09:00 a.m., by Royal Command of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol, President of the Chulabhorn Research Institute (CRI), Mr. Surapit Kirtiputra, Vice President for International Relations of the CRI, presided over the opening ceremony of the Project on Integrated Training for Knowledge Dissemination and Technology Transfer on the Management of Rabies to Communities, under the strategic plan of the operation of HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s project on “Disease-free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies”, at Classic Kameo Hotel, Pailing Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. The Project was a collaboration between the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Faculty of Education, Kasetsart University.
The training aims to disseminate the information on the progress of the Project, as well as related laws and regulations, and provide a forum for exchange of learning, including academic knowledge and practical experiences, human and animal health, and efficient management of rabies in communities, by raising awareness of the methods to sustainably prevent the spread of rabies. The activities under the training comprised lectures to transfer academic knowledge, as well as training and exercise on the use of applications to prevent rabies in schools and communities. The training participants consisted of five target groups namely, livestock officials, health education teachers, village health volunteers, public health officials from local administrative organizations, and community representatives, with approximately 200 participants.
While concerned with the health of people, pets, and stray and homeless animals, Her Royal Highness had been unwaveringly committed to eradicating rabies from Thailand by driving the implementation of eight key strategies. The Training Project is one of the eight strategies which concretely helps advance the implementation of HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s project on “Disease-free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies”. Creating knowledge to control and prevent rabies, ensuring safe coexistence between humans and animals, indeed comes under the strategy related to development and technology transfer. Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province is a target area for the operation under the strategy and is well prepared to build a network of relevant agencies to efficiently monitor, prevent, and control rabies across all areas in the Province.
