By Royal Command of the President of the Chulabhorn Research Institute, Project on Integrated Training for Knowledge Dissemination and Technology Transfer on the Management of Rabies to Communities was held in Lop Buri Province

On November 25, 2023, by Royal Command of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol, President of the Chulabhorn Research Institute, Mr. Surapit Kirtiputra, Vice President for International Relations, Chulabhorn Research Institute, presided over the opening ceremony of the Project on Integrated Training for Knowledge Dissemination and Technology Transfer on the Management of Rabies to Communities, under HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s project on “Disease-free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies”.  The event was held at Lopburi Inn Resort Hotel, Tha Sala subdistrict, Mueang Lop Buri district, Lop Buri province.

The Project was organized through the cooperation between the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Faculty of Education, Kasetsart University.  It aimed to encourage exchange of learning on animal health, human health, and the management of addressing the problems of rabies in communities.  The activities included lectures to provide academic knowledge and a workshop on the use of applications and information systems to prevent rabies, as well as efficiency in promoting knowledge and understanding of the problems of rabies.  Approximately 150 participants attended, comprising livestock officials, public health officials, health education teachers, village health volunteers, and community representatives.

Lop Buri province has been selected as a target area for the operation of the Project on Integrated Training for Knowledge Dissemination and Technology Transfer on the Management of Rabies to Communities.  In Lop Buri province, the dog and cat population totals 234,651, of which 1,945 are already sterilized, with 230,709 doses of vaccination against rabies administered.  Training in the field of rabies has been provided to 132 livestock volunteers.  Moreover, in the province, there are two shelters for stray dogs and cats, one is located in Phrabatnampu Temple in Khao Sam Yot subdistrict, and the other in Nong Muang district.

The Project integrates cooperation among all relevant sectors, recognizing the need to efficiently manage and address the problems of dogs in communities and to be aware of methods for sustainably preventing the spread of rabies.
