Through the benevolence of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol, and in addition to her commitment to the well-being of the Thai people in various aspects, Her Royal Highness also takes great interest in the development of veterinary science to promote the healthcare of animals so that they do not suffer from serious diseases especially rabies, which constitutes a major public health problem in the country. Her Royal Highness continuously dedicates all her efforts to supporting the government sector in addressing such problems, as demonstrated for instance by her royal duties performed with HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s Veterinary Volunteer Unit in Chaiyaphum, Lop Buri, and Phetchabun Provinces between January 27-30, 2024. Her Royal Highness’s compassion extends to sick animals, ensuring they receive treatment and relief from suffering, which reduces their death rate from serious diseases, as well as eases the burden on pet owners. Cancer is presently one of the leading causes of mortality globally and in Thailand it is now the number one cause of deaths. The 8th Princess Chulabhorn International Science Congress was held during the week of November 13-17, 2016 to commemoratethe seventieth anniversary of the accession to the throne of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the seventh cycle (84 years) birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. The theme of the Congress, “Environmental Health: Inter-linkages among the Environment, Chemicals and Infectious Agents”, is in line with the views of Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn, who has consistently emphasized the importance of research and development in environmental health, which can integrate the fields of environmental science, chemical safety and infectious agents. The Congress included a keynote lecture, a Nobel laureate lecture, plenary sessions, symposia, and a roundtable discussion. There were also 16 platform presentations and 159 poster presentations displaying research conducted by congress participants. The Congress involved a total of 75 invited speakers from 20 countries and over 700 participants from 29 countries.
