Project on Integrated Training for Knowledge Dissemination and Technology Transfer on the Management of Rabies to Communities under HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s Project on “Disease-Free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies” in Sukhothai Province


On July 15, 2023, by Royal Command of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol, Dr. Thakur Phanit, Vice President for International Relations, Chulahorn Research Institute, presided over the opening ceremony of the Project on Integrated Training for Knowledge Dissemination and Technology Transfer on the Management of Rabies to Communities, under HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s project on “Disease–free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies”, at Sukhothai Treasure Resort & Spa, Mueang Sukhothai District, Sukhothai Province.


Under this Training Project, organized through the cooperation between the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Faculty of Education, Kasetsart University, activities comprising sharing of knowledge, including theoretical knowledge and practical experiences, have been carried out in various provinces across Thailand. In Sukhothai Province, the activities were composed of academic lectures on progress and cooperation among agencies under HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s project on “Disease-free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies”, local rules and regulations on the management of stray dogs, channel to gain access to the media concerning rabies through a technique of management and learning about rabies using game-based learning, as well as a workshop on the use of applications to prevent rabies in schools and communities, with brainstorming and exchange of learning. Approximately 150 participants attended the training, consisting of livestock officials, public health officials, health education teachers, village health volunteers, and community representatives.




Sukhothai Province is a target area for the operation of HRH Princess Chulabhorn’s project on “Disease-free Animals, Safe Humans from Rabies”. According to a report, the dog and cat population totals 158,502, of which 2,322 are already sterilized. Training to build and upgrade potentials has been provided to 80 livestock volunteers. In 2023, the Sukhothai Provincial Livestock Office helped drive and support operations of relevant sectors to efficiently manage the problems of dogs in their communities, and to strengthen and speed up the local areas as rabies-free areas, aiming to fulfill the intention of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol for the sustainable elimination of rabies from Thailand.
