It is evident that Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol has always been committed to performing Royal Duties associated with medicine and public health in Thailand, mitigating suffering and promoting happiness of the Thai people. Deeply concerned with the health and hygiene of the sick and needy in Thailand who lack access to advanced medical technologies, Her Royal Highness has dedicated Herself to providing treatment and promoting standard medical and public health services across various areas of the country through the operations of the Princess Mother’s Medical Volunteer Foundation (PMMV), where medical personnel and volunteers from central and provincial administrations work together to fulfill the intention of Her Royal Highness.  One such example is the visits that Her Royal Highness made to the PMMV in the Provinces of Maha Sarakham, Kalasin, and Khon Kaen from October 20-24, 2023.

Upon learning about Her Royal Highness’s visits, people in these areas and adjacent provinces were filled with happiness and came from early morning to have the opportunity to admire Her Royal Highness closely, express their loyalty, and gratitude in recognition of Her Royal Highness’s immeasurable concern for the people’s well-being.  Her Royal Highness greeted and waved at large crowds who came to pay respect to Her along the way.

During the PMMV operations in each area this time around, a large number of patients traveled to receive treatment, including those with general diseases as well as complex diseases that are difficult to treat and carry high fatality risks, requiring timely assistance and treatment. The mission aims to enable the sick and underprivileged to lead normal and happy lives, no longer at risk of contracting severe diseases.

On this occasion, Her Royal Highness graciously gave doctors the opportunity to bring underprivileged and needy patients to have audiences with Her.  The patients were found to be suffering from various severe chronic diseases, such as leukemia, retinoblastoma, breast cancer, congenital heart disease, and cerebral palsy, among others.  Her Royal Highness inquired about the symptoms and livelihood of the patients with great concern and worked with the medical team to make diagnoses and seek appropriate and, particularly, safe treatments.  Her Royal Highness showed compassion by taking the patients under Her patronage so that they would receive the best treatment in hospitals equipped with medical specialists and advanced medical equipment.  Her Royal Highness also provided them with grants from the Chulabhorn Foundation to cover necessary expenses for further treatment and initial living costs.

Apart from providing comprehensive treatment and public health services to local patients, Her Royal Highness also distributed school uniforms to pupil representatives as well as toys and coloring books to young children to enhance their learning processes.

At the same time, Her Royal Highness presented committee and sub-committee emblems to the representatives of the PMMV committee and sub-committee in each province, and also presented the PMMV emblems, brooches inscribed with the Royal Application S.V., and trophies to the volunteers, who performed their duties with dedication, sacrifice, and public-mindedness, expecting nothing in return.

On this occasion, Her Royal Highness led the PMMV members in singing her own composition “Luad Yod Diaw (One Drop of Blood)” and delivered an address, applauding all PMMV members for their dedication to the public good and stressing the importance of performing duties for the Thai people and the nation, while maintaining presence of mind at all time.

During the operations of the PMMV in the Provinces of Maha Sarakham, Kalasin, and Khon Kaen, provincial and community hospitals in each area, such as Mahasarakham Hospital, Na Dun Hospital, Kalasin Hospital, Kuchinnarai Crown Prince Hospital, Khon Kaen Provincial Public Health Office, and Namphong Hospital, etc. all joined the Royal Medical Unit from Chulabhorn Hospital in providing medical and public health services to patients, including health check-ups and general medical treatments, eye examination, dental services, consultation on mental health issues, treatment for emergency and accident patients, as well as Thai traditional medical treatment. A total of 1,161 patients received treatment with common health problems, including musculoskeletal and joint diseases, gastrointestinal tract diseases, and heart diseases.

These activities bear testimony to Her Royal Highness’s benevolence and concern for the Thai people’s health and hygiene as Her Royal Highness realizes that people’s good health plays a pivotal role in producing quality human resources to become a major force in the country’s development.
